This week has been fun and exciting. We had an awesome OMSI Star Lab presentation today after morning assembly and the final OBOB battle takes place today: 5th grade against 4th grade. Also, because it is Classified Staff Appreciation week, some kids in our class got up at the assembly and appreciated the staff for being part of our school.
Math:
This week in math we have been focusing on geometry. We learned the difference between an equilateral triangle, an isosceles triangle and a scalene triangle. Yesterday we made a Hierarchy on Polygons. We also learned and reviewed what a Rhombus, square, rectangle and parallelogram is. Also, our class focused on describing the properties of polygons and classifying and organizing polygons according to size and angles.
Reading:
This week in reading we have been continuing to use all the tools in our tool belts (strategies) to Determine Importance in our reading and give evidence for our thinking. We have also been working on using textual evidence to give pro reading responses to back up our thinking with true information.
Writing:
This week in writing we continued to work on our choice pieces and our writing groups gave us feedback on what we should add, include, and do to make our writing better.
Next week is a short week, Tuesday - Thursday. Taking the OAKS Science Test and having some exciting visits from our Artist in Residence are just a few of the activities we have planned. Additionally, we will be continuing our geometry work with coordinate grids, completing an informative writing sample, and inquiring into how our government works.
Specials next week: Library, Music, P.E.
Reminders:
Here is an awesome "Bill of Rights" rap to check out. Have a great weekend!
